Police Light Bars
Black Oak LED police light bars are built for marked and unmarked patrol vehicles that need full red and blue warning coverage without the height and wind noise of a legacy full-size bar. Every light bar on this page is available in a Red & Blue configuration, runs Generation IV LEDs behind TIR optics, and ships in an IP69K-rated extruded housing that survives pressure washing, road salt and continuous duty cycles.
What size light bar for a patrol car?
Roofline width is the deciding factor, not vehicle class. Measure the flat span between your roof rails or door jambs and subtract two inches. Most agencies running a full-size sedan or a Ford Explorer Interceptor land on the 49".
| Size | Typical vehicle | Mounting |
|---|---|---|
| 17" | Unmarked units, motorcycle, interior deck or dash | Magnet or headache rack |
| 30" | Slick-top supplement, mid-size SUV crossbar | Door jamb, magnet or headache rack |
| 43" | Compact and mid-size patrol sedan | Door jamb or headache rack |
| 49" | Full-size patrol sedan, Explorer, Tahoe | Door jamb or headache rack |
| 55" | Full-width SUV and pickup roofline | Door jamb or 4x headache rack |
Red and blue is legally restricted in most states
Red and blue emergency lighting is reserved for authorized emergency vehicles in nearly every US state, and the definition of "authorized" varies. Some states permit volunteer responders to run blue only, or red only, on a privately owned vehicle with a department permit. Others prohibit it outright. Confirm your state statute and your department policy before ordering a red and blue configuration. If you need a legal option for a personal vehicle, look at our amber warning light bars.
On every Low Pro police bar
- Generation IV LEDs with TIR optical collimation for long-range signal at a 1.5" profile
- 13 selectable flash patterns with pattern memory, plus a steady-burn takedown mode
- IP69K sealed aluminum housing, polycarbonate lens, stainless hardware
- Independent left, right and center control for traffic advisor and directional use
- Door jamb, headache rack and magnetic mounting options
- Controller cable in 12', 22' and 27' lengths for extended-cab and SUV runs
Frequently asked questions
Can I run red and blue on a personal vehicle?
Only where your state explicitly authorizes it, and usually only with a department-issued permit. Volunteer firefighter and POV rules differ from sworn law enforcement rules. Check your state code before purchasing.
Do these bars work as a primary warning device?
Yes. Low Pro bars are built to Class 1 output levels, which is the tier intended for primary emergency vehicles rather than escort or secondary use.
Will a low profile bar be visible enough at highway speed?
TIR optics collimate the output into a controlled horizontal beam rather than scattering it, so a 1.5" bar delivers comparable on-axis intensity to a taller reflector bar while cutting drag and wind noise.
Can I add takedowns and alley lights?
The 43", 49" and 55" bars support independent section control that can be assigned to takedown and alley functions. For fleet builds, contact us for a wiring diagram before installation.
Do you offer fleet or agency pricing?
Yes. We sell factory-direct and quote agency, municipal and fleet orders on request, including purchase-order terms.
