FAQ

What is Meant By “Beam Pattern?”

The term beam pattern refers to the angle at which the bulbs in an LED light bar cast their light. Spot beams are much narrower in angle and throw a beam a much further distance, while flood beams provide more light on the sides but are less penetrating. Which one you want is dependent upon your intended purpose. Generally, spot beams are better for on- \road driving while flood beams are better for off-road. Alternatively, you could choose to go with a light bar that is equipped with a combination of spot and flood LEDs. This is a highly popular choice.

What Does the Rating IP69K Mean?

IP69K is a rating of how well protected an electronic is against both particulate elements such as dirt and sand as well as water and is the highest rating available. The 6 in the rating means that the light is completely safeguarded against extremely fine solid particles such as dust. The 9 in the rating means that the light is able to withstand both pressure washing and steam cleaning without compromising the electronics inside. In short, a rating of IP69K means that the light is 100% water-proof and dust-proof and will stand up to even the harshest environments with ease.

What Does the Rating IP68 Mean?

IP68 is a rating that refers to how well protected the bulbs and electronics inside a light are against water and solid particles such as mud and dust. The 6 in the rating means that the light is fully secured even against tiny particulate matter such as fine dust and sand. The 8 in the rating means that the light can withstand being submerged in over a meter of water for a limitless amount of time without retaining water damage—meaning that you can cross that stream without a worry.

How Long are Black Oak LED Light Bars Built to Last?

The short answer is a really long time. Our light bars are constructed in such a way that they have an average life span of 50,000 hours of run time. This means that you could turn your light on and leave it running for five straight years before it may start to malfunction. Under normal use, our light bars will last longer than the vehicle you mount them on.

What is a Cree LED

Cree is a company dedicated to developing top-of-the-line LED technology. Their LEDs are built to burn brighter while using less wattage to stay running. While Cree does not make their LEDs specifically for light bars, many light bars today are outfitted with them due to their superb quality.

Lumens Vs Watts, Which is More Important

Lumens refers to the amount of light that a light bar can produce. It is the standard unit for measuring light intensity and is the best way to determine how bright an LED is. Watts on the other hand, is a measure of how much electric power is needed to run the light. While higher wattage sometimes means higher luminosity, this is not always the case, as more efficient LEDs are able to produce an equal amount of light while using less power. In this regard, the lumens of a light bar is the more important measurement to pay attention to.

What is Amp Draw?

Amp draw refers to the amount of electrical current a light needs to stay running. The higher the amp draw of a light, the quicker it will drain your battery. So long as your vehicle is running, this is not usually a concern. However, if you run your light without your motor on then you will want to be careful not to completely drain your vehicle’s battery.
